Met elkaar sta je sterker
Collectieven Freelancers bundelen vaker hun krachten. Want samen kun je meer opdrachten binnenslepen, een beter product afleveren en steviger onderhandelen over de prijs.

Ze staan nooit in de file onderweg naar kantoor. Ze bepalen zelf waar, aan wat en wanneer ze werken. Zeurende collega’s? Saaie vergaderingen? Niet aan de orde.

Freelancers hebben vaak meer vrijheid dan mensen in loondienst – en die wordt gekoesterd. Nederland telt 800.000 zzp’ers en nog eens 600.000 mensen die naast hun ‘gewone’ baan als zzp’er wat bijverdienen. Verreweg de meesten van hen – zo’n 85 procent, blijkt uit onderzoek van Stichting Economisch Onderzoek Rotterdam – kiezen bewust voor zelfstandigheid.

Toch ontstaan de laatste jaren nieuwe verenigingen van freelancers die juist besluiten te gaan samenwerken. Van tekstschrijvers tot designers, van binnenhuisarchitecten tot sociaal ondernemers, van kunstschilders tot koks.

De ene club is professioneler en grootschaliger dan de ander, maar grofweg hebben deze collectieven hetzelfde doel: de krachten bundelen om zo meer opdrachten binnen te slepen, betere kwaliteit af te leveren, en een hogere prijs te kunnen vragen voor het product. Een vereniging waar iedereen beter van wordt, dus. Eén voor allen, allen voor één.

Eind vorige maand werd De Coöperatie gelanceerd: een grootschalig netwerk voor journalistieke freelancers. Volgens mede-initiatiefnemer Teun Gautier, voormalig uitgever van weekblad De Groene Amsterdammer, ligt de toekomst van de journalistiek namelijk niet bij grote mediaorganisaties, maar bij de onafhankelijke zzp’er, die op eigen initiatief verhalen maakt.

Probleem voor deze freelancers – denk aan schrijvende journalisten, fotografen en vormgevers – is alleen dat hun onderhandelingspositie vaak slecht is. Vanwege de concurrentie kunnen ze geen vaste prijsafspraken maken en zijn ze genoodzaakt voor een lager loon te werken dan ze zouden willen.
